Topper is basically a early version of the movie Beetle Juice. Cary Grant and Constance Bennett play a couple of party people who die tragically in a car accident. They are caught in limbo and are charged with one good deed…to enlighten the life of Cosmo & Clara Topper, played by Roland Young & Billie Burke.
The ghosts act to make Cosmo Topper a changed man a person more real more free and open which yet he still remained plenty respectable a person given by today’s measures of morality given the standards of the world when this film was made. Cosmo is thrust unwillingly into one mad cap adventure after another until the poor dear was numb. He became more free simply because these two ghost unable to give up their wild party lifestyle dragged poor topper with them wherever they went.

Cary Grant is in the Top 10 of actors of all-time and this movie is up there also. He and Constance Bennett play very well off each other in this tale about 2 partiers who’s fate is sealed by an alcohol induced accident that leaves both of them in Limbo.
They are charged with making the life of their worldy boss, Cosmo Topper, more exciting so that he can see that there is more to life than just working. Here is the catch, Topper is a bit of a screw so the mission is not that easy. You can really see how censorship and morality have gotten ahold of cinema in today’s age. Only in Grant’s time could a movie involve two people drinking and driving who die and than have to get a good man to change into what they were so they could get into heaven…LOL hilarious. If you watch this movie with all this in mind, you will find it so much better.
